In the begining there was a Jeep Cherokee Laredo, not much unlike those around it at the factory.
It had some factory installed options and then was sent out to the dealership to be sold. Some person came along purchasing
the Jeep in 1988, the Jeep being an early 1989, and they drove it around town untill they were ready to purchase a new
vehicle at which time they sold it to another person. This person did the same used as a daily driver, perhaps they
did some light off-roading in it, when they where through with it, they sold it to my cousin and uncle. Whom had
it for a year, and then I bought it from them in the June of 2004 as my first vehicle when I got home from Iraq.
I drove her around, took her some mild trails and then it came to me one day while I was on the
internet researching Jeep Cherokees. That perhaps my Jeep was destined to serve a higher purpose, to not just be doomed
to a miserable life of grocery getting, daily driving, child carrying days. No my friend this Jeep was destined to be
modified and customized into something beautiful, to full fill its Jeep heritage filled legacy. I was going to
modify my Cherokee for my use in firefighting and wilderness search and rescue. Granted I will still use her as my daily
driver, she will just also be used for helping lost and injured souls.
The goals of Project XJ Rescue are very, very simple to have a clean, nice, mostly stock looking
Jeep Cherokee. However, the Jeep must be able to meet my needs for responding to fire calls and for going on Search
And Rescue Missions. In addition to all this I am still going to use my Cherokee as an daily driver, and to haul
my family around. This doesnt leave me a lot of room or space to do most if not all the things that I want to do.
